Acceler8 has officially started the summer classes
On July 10, 2021 students and staff combined, attended our first summer class at the Petersen Museum. Thank you to the Petersen Museum for providing us a spot in the “Vault” to be able to hold a special class that we are sure they all enjoyed. Students throughout Los Angeles got together to learn about some of the many fields of automotive that provide successful careers. Thanks to Pedal Commander and their donated product, as well as the instruction provided by PK Auto Design, students were able to learn about the electronic throttle control device, its capabilities as well as assist with installation on our program sponsored 2016 Ford Mustang.
After our successful classroom portion, the Petersen Museum gave our students the opportunity to tour the Vault, a VIP area of the museum, as well as the area that is open to the public. They were excited about being able to view the “Pope-mobile”, and Gypsy Rose, as well as the first Ferrari.
After the exciting tour of the museum, our students were given the opportunity to meet 2 time Olympian medalist and motivational speaker, Dr. Mark Crear. He spoke to them about the difficulties he faced as a young child growing up and the many roadblocks, he endured into his teenage years that was pushing him farther away from being able to work towards a successful lifestyle. With all the trials and tribulations, he provided some insight and motivational words on how he managed to overcome the difficulties he faced and how he was able to persevere through the hard times in order to work towards a future of success.
Thank you to the Petersen Museum for being a continued supporter of the Accelerate Education Group and providing an amazing facility to hold our summer classes in.
Also thank you to Pedal Commander for the donated devices, and to PK Auto Design for donating your time to help teach our classes so that our students get the hands-on experience they need in order to build up their skillset within the automotive industry.
We would also like to send a big thank you to the additional programs who were able to bring their students to the class in order to expand their learning experiences and cabilities as well as helping open their eyes to new and positive avenues towards a brighter future! Thank you to Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) who are connected with the Tarzana Treatment Center, as well as LAPD CSP Unit, and LA County Probation.
This was one of our memorable classes, and we look forward to many more to come. Our next class will be held on July 24th and will feature a Wilwood brake installation.
Students are invited to enroll for in-person or virtual online classes through the Acceler8 website at acceler8education.org
Acceler8 is an Automotive Education Program run by a small group of Law Enforcement veterans who are seeking to make a difference in their communities. It aims to expose men and women aged 14-24 to the automotive industry and the many opportunities it holds. The mission is to teach skills to high school students who are at risk and build them into leaders. The program will develop positive relationships with Law Enforcement mentors at a critical time in their lives.
GET INVOLVED
In addition to recommending students to the program, we invite the Greater Los Angeles community and automotive enthusiasts to get involved with Acceler8. As a nonprofit organization, it is funded solely by donations and sponsorships from the community. All funds raised go directly to the Acceler8 program and help to provide each student a chance to enter the automotive industry by gaining the skills needed to advance their potential while being mentored by leaders within the community. Furthermore, Acceler8 welcomes qualified volunteers to join the program to impart their knowledge and life skills either mentoring the students or providing their expertise. Please visit acceler8education.org to learn more about the Acceler8 program, to enroll a student, volunteer for the program, or to donate.
